A race to dinner
They waited for me to join
And then I slowed down

Around the table
Just like years ago with beer
In hand, we chilled out

I wrote the email
That shared our thoughts and concern
The reply was terse

There were nuts and words
She chose cracking sound of nuts
Protecting her thoughts

You missed his progress
The attack was launched without
Hearing the boy read

We ate dinner out
Then went to the costume store
Early Halloween plans

A shiny red stool
My socks slipped on the red seat
Door chunks lay silent

I stepped though the list
Followed each task in order
Distanced from present
