A quiet drive home
We slide into our own lanes
Crossing our state’s line

The distance now shrinks
With each mile, real life covers
Waits to ambush us

At gluten-free shop
We shared our baking battles
Then gorged on the treats

The Kansas twine ball
Built by multiple people
Does not impress me

Near the mountain top
Burnt brake smell fills the train’s cars
Call for rescue train

Our plans and clothes drenched
We fast track to our next stop
Flip to foodie mode

Her Webex backdrop
Came to life as we caught up
Dog still steals the show

Years ago , I searched
For a quote on a statue
Now search for statue

Watch my youngest drive
Thinking of his toy tractor
Now drives past corn fields
